We want your BOX TOPS!
We accept BOT TOPS all school year long. Drop them in the Box Tops barrel located in the hallway near the office.
You can use the collection sheets at www.boxtops4education.com or put them in a baggie or envelope or drop them in individually.
Each one is worth 10cents for our school and they add up fast.
Thanks for your support!
MacArthur is in need of gently used School Uniform pcs to be used when students are in need of a change of clothing at school.
Please keep this in mind as you go through your childrens clothes throughout the summer.
Mostly smaller sizes, (sizes 8 and under) but we appreciate clothing donations of any size. Items include shirts, slacks, shorts, skirts, underwear and socks.
All donations can be brought to the MacArthur Office in September.
Check out our New Keyboarding Skills learning and practice page.

MacArthur Eagles – “Soaring to Success”
2016 - 2017 SCHOOL YEAR
Dear MacArthur Families,
Welcome back Eagles! We are thrilled to have your students back and excited to begin another progressive school year at MacArthur Elementary. I hope that you took time to enjoy your summer days to recharge your batteries and reconnect with those that are most important to you. The new school year is a time of new beginnings and hope. As we begin the school year please consider the words of Mary Anne Radmacher:
"Use this time of fresh beginnings. Use it as an impetus, the force or energy toward change. Become stronger and more focused in your thoughts. Exert more influence over your dreams by bringing them closer to your thoughts, every day."
My name is Scott Fleming and I am the principal at MacArthur Elementary. I have been working for the Long Beach Unified School District for over 20 wonderful years. Working collaboratively, we will continue to strive to make measureable gains in both academics and overall school wide culture to support and prepare our students for the rigors of middle school, high school, and college.
I come to you this year with the same focus on student achievement and campus culture. I am excited to continue to serve our MacArthur family. I look forward to meeting each of you and your young scholars in the coming weeks. I am committed to helping each of our students reach their full potential. Working together, we can make a difference.
This year, we present to you a new school vision in alignment with new instructional shifts in Long Beach Unified School District. Our vision reads, “We, the MacArthur Elementary Family, promote good character and academic success for all students. Students are encouraged to take risks in their thinking and reflect on their learning to become literate individuals. Students are taught to clearly communicate and work collaboratively with others.”
It is with great anticipation and enthusiasm that I write on behalf of our school staff outlining the recent celebrations of MacArthur. Our school demonstrated positive gains in student achievement including second overall growth in English Language Arts and first in overall growth in Mathematics of 55 elementary schools in Long Beach (measured by SBAC).
We also demonstrated exemplary gains in our students’ Growth Mindset and Self Efficacy ratings, ranking in the 99th percentile of districts who comprise the CORE. We are thrilled with the results! “There is a sense of exhilaration that comes from facing head-on the hard truths and saying, "We will never give up. We will never capitulate. It might take a long time, but we will find a way to prevail." - Jim Collins
We hope that you take a moment to read the Parent Information Packet that your child has brought home today. This includes the MacArthur Code of Scholarly and Behavioral Excellence. Our office staff and administrative team are here to assist you with any questions that you may have about MacArthur. To ensure that our campus is safe, we require that all visitors sign in at the front office. The safety of our children is always on our minds.
For student drop-off and pick-up, please do not use the teacher parking lot. The access into the lot needs to be clear at all times to avoid congestion and keep the fire lane open for emergencies. Please obey school zone speed limits and do not drop your students off at a location where they will have to cross the street (Lakewood Municipal Code – Section 3273). I would also like to remind you to please respect our neighbors. They just ask to please keep their driveways clear so they can accommodate their guests and have access in case of any emergency.
We encourage you to seek opportunities for involvement at MacArthur by contacting our PTA at email@example.com. Please do not hesitate to contact the school if you have any questions or concerns. I am looking forward to working with our MacArthur students, parents, staff, and community as we continue to pursue academic excellence for ALL children.
